Angelo and Teresa (Taverna) Infelise

Angelo Michele Infelise was born in 1892 in Piane Crati, Cosenza, Italy to Giovanni Battista Infelise and Rosina Marina Antonina Lauriati. He emigrated to the US when he was 13 with his brother Pietro (Pietro is said to have crossed the Atlantic 7 times!). A cousin, Luigi Infelise, met them at Ellis Island and accompanied them to Canada. From there, they settled in Minnesota and later moved to Wisconsin while working for the railroad. Their sister, Carmella (arrived from Italy in 1915) and settled in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, where her husband, Frank, opened a jewelry store.

Angelo returned to Piane Crati in 1970 where he was welcomed by his nieces who had remained in the area. His letters tell of the beautiful countryside and the gracious hospitality of his relatives.

Teresa Infelise was born in 1901 to Joseph and Angela Taverna. She was their second child. She met Angelo and married on October 25, 1917. They lived in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario for many years where Angelo was a jeweler and, later, an insurance salesman for Prudential Insurance. The family moved to Toronto around 1936.
